Clay paver patterns: size, colour and quantity checks

A clay paver pattern changes how the joints, borders and colour are seen across a path or patio. Before choosing a design from a photograph, check the brick dimensions, the intended laying face and the quantity available in the selected product option. This guide connects those choices with the clay pavers currently listed in our shop.

Choose a pattern before counting the bricks

Running bond, herringbone and basket weave describe different arrangements. Use a sketch of the actual area to discuss the direction, edges and cuts with your installer. A pattern name does not establish that a particular brick and construction are suitable for vehicle traffic.

Pattern ideas and the questions to settle before ordering
Pattern Planning check
Running or stretcher bond Offset rows create a directional effect. Check the row starts, ends and connection to the border.
45-degree or 90-degree herringbone The bricks form a zigzag arrangement. Draw its direction relative to the area and identify perimeter cuts.
Basket weave Groups change direction to create a repeated block effect. Check that the chosen brick dimensions and joints form the required module.

For general visual background, see Wienerberger's clay paving pattern overview. It is not a specification or certification for our separately listed products. Have the layout and installation requirements confirmed for the actual item and site.

Read all three brick dimensions

Our four colour listings below state a nominal 200 x 48 x 58 mm format. Read length, width and depth together when comparing a product with an existing surface. Do not assume that a slim clay paver has the same proportions as another brick or paving block.

The Burnt Red product page also retains a separate 200 x 50 size entry. This differs from the title-derived dimensions above. Confirm the actual brick dimensions and intended laying face with us before ordering; do not treat either entry as a verified installation module or use it alone to calculate a square-metre quantity.

The intended laying face, joints, border and cuts affect a finished layout. Dividing an area by a bare brick-face measurement does not by itself establish the order quantity. Ask your installer to check the proposed arrangement before using a pack's selling coverage in a calculation.

Compare the four colour listings

Use the actual photographs alongside nearby walls, steps and paving. These are separate colour choices within the listed slim clay range; a screen image or a shared format does not guarantee a colour match.

Clay paving colours in the current catalogue
Product listing Colour to compare
Burnt Red clay pavers Red brick tones alongside the surrounding masonry.
Tuscany Buff clay pavers The lighter, warm buff option.
Burnt Umber clay pavers The brown option, compared with red or charcoal.
Heritage Charcoal grey clay pavers The darker charcoal-grey option.

Keep piece counts and square metres separate

These listings currently label a full crate as 780 pieces / 7.80 m². Smaller options list 100 to 700 pieces with their own selling coverage. These are option labels, not a fixed cutting allowance or a guarantee that one pack will finish every shape of area. Confirm the coverage basis for the selected option and copy its full title and SKU when asking a question; do not derive a quantity from a reference-code suffix alone.

For a simple piece-count example, if an agreed layout needs 600 full pieces plus 50 pieces for cuts and spares, the requirement is 650 pieces. A 700-piece option would contain 50 pieces above that requirement; a 780-piece crate would contain 130. This illustrates counting only, not a recommended waste allowance, area coverage or a comparison of order prices.

Compare the actual available options and total order cost once the quantity has been agreed. Our pack sizes and unit-price guide explains why a pack price and a price per square metre need different checks.

Check borders, access and the final order

Record the main area, separate border runs, changes of direction and openings. Use the paving area calculator and order checklist for the area arithmetic, then confirm the clay brick count and pattern independently. For vehicle access or other specific loading, obtain product-specific suitability and construction advice before ordering.
