Choosing paving & patio slabs

Choose the material before the colour

Porcelain, sandstone, limestone and granite have different surface finishes and care requirements. Start with how the space will be used, the look you want and the maintenance you can allow for. Then compare individual products rather than relying on material name alone.

Plan the layout and pack coverage

Measure the usable area in square metres and note steps, borders and changes in level. Compare the dimensions and coverage of the selected pack. Single-size slabs and mixed-size patio packs create different layouts; check the pack contents before deciding how many to order.

Complete the project

Consider edging, steps and compatible installation materials alongside your slabs. Ask your installer to confirm the sub-base, drainage, bedding and jointing requirements for the exact product and site. Paving for a garden patio should not be assumed suitable for vehicle traffic.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between porcelain and natural stone paving?

Porcelain is manufactured, while natural stone is quarried and can vary in tone, markings and texture. Compare the finish, size, care instructions and stated application of each product to choose the look and upkeep that suit your project.

How do I calculate how much paving I need?

Multiply the length by the width of each rectangular area in metres, then add the areas together. Have your installer allow for the chosen layout, cutting and wastage. Divide the final area by the coverage of the selected pack and round up to whole packs where required.

Can I use patio slabs on a driveway?

Only choose paving explicitly specified for vehicle loading with a suitable installation design. Slab thickness alone does not establish driveway suitability. Confirm the exact product and construction with your installer before ordering.

Can I order a sample first?

Where a sample option is listed on a product page, select that option before adding it to the basket. A sample helps you compare colour and texture but does not represent every variation in natural stone.

What should I check before ordering?

Confirm the selected size, finish, pack contents, coverage, stock status and delivery options for your address. Check the complete project with your installer, including matching edges, steps and installation materials.
