Paving pack sizes and price per square metre

A lower pack price does not always mean a lower project cost. Paving options can contain different quantities and slab formats, while samples are separate purchases. Compare the unit, coverage and contents together.

Slab format and pack coverage describe different things

The slab format is the size of an individual piece. Pack coverage is the area stated for the selected pack or option. A mixed-size patio pack may contain several formats, so read its contents and proposed laying pattern rather than treating every piece as the same size.

Use the coverage published for the actual option when calculating the order. Do not replace it with a calculation based on one photographed slab, and do not assume that every option on the product page contains a full pallet.

Compare like-for-like unit prices

For options sold by area, divide the actual pack price by the published pack coverage to compare a price per square metre. For items sold by piece, length or set, use the listed selling unit instead. Keep sample prices outside the comparison of full paving quantities.

The starting unit price on a product card is a comparison aid. The selected product option and basket show the actual amount for the pack or quantity being purchased.

Work from the project back to the packs

  1. Measure the area and consider changes in shape and levels.
  2. Choose the slab format and laying pattern.
  3. Discuss a suitable cutting allowance with the installer.
  4. Compare the required area with the chosen option's published coverage.
  5. Check borders, steps, edging and installation products separately.

A simple area example

A rectangular area measuring 5 metres by 4 metres is 20 square metres. If a planning allowance of 10% is chosen, the comparison area becomes 22 square metres. This illustrates the arithmetic only: the correct allowance and number of packs depend on the actual layout, cuts and published pack contents.

Check the final order details

Before buying, confirm the exact option, product reference, quantity, delivery arrangements and applicable terms. Use our patio planner, compare the paving collections, or send a project enquiry if an option is unclear.
